Commonwealth

The Commonwealth building has a facade of exposed brick and dark steel, with an oversized, illuminated sign hanging over the sidewalk that displays its name in vintage-style bulbs. Before it became a popular bar, the building served as a textile factory in the mid-twentieth century. Its industrial past remains in the high ceilings and the original brickwork lining the interior walls. A rooftop deck provides a clear view of the surrounding blocks, though the interior stairs retain the heavy, utilitarian feel of the factory.
