Brookfield Place occupies land that was once part of the Hudson River. To create this site, engineers used vast amounts of dirt and rock excavated during the construction of the original World Trade Center towers. This landfill project physically extended the shoreline of Lower Manhattan, allowing for the development of what was then known as the World Financial Center.
