John Henry Hammond House

The John Henry Hammond House stands as a refined example of High Renaissance residential architecture, designed by the celebrated firm Carrère and Hastings. Completed in nineteen oh three, the five-story mansion features a facade of smooth limestone above a boldly rusticated base, drawing its aesthetic inspiration from sixteenth-century Roman palazzi. Its construction was a wedding gift from William Douglas Sloane to his daughter, Emily Vanderbilt Sloane, following her marriage to the lawyer and banker John Henry Hammond.
