Bohemian National Hall

The Bohemian National Hall stands as a rare survivor of the elaborate social centers that once defined the immigrant experience in New York City. Built between eighteen ninety-five and eighteen ninety-seven, this five-story Renaissance Revival structure was funded by a massive grassroots effort of over eighty different Czech and Slovak clubs. These organizations united under the Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association to create a centralized hub where their community could gather, preserve their language, and maintain their cultural traditions. Its facade of buff Roman brick, stone, and terra cotta reflects the pride and scale of the neighborhood's former working-class population.
