The Sherry-Netherland stands at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 59th Street as a quiet titan of the Jazz Age. When it opened in 1927, it claimed the title of the tallest apartment-hotel in the world, stretching thirty-eight stories into the skyline. Its height was so significant that it surpassed the Washington Monument by four feet.
