Greenpoint Avenue Bridge

The Greenpoint Avenue Bridge, officially known as the J. J. Byrne Memorial Bridge, is the sixth structure to span this particular stretch of Newtown Creek since the mid-nineteenth century. The original crossing was a simple wooden drawbridge built in the eighteen fifties by a developer and shipbuilder named Neziah Bliss to connect his new community in Queens to the industrial waterfront in Brooklyn.
