Cornell Tech

educational

The Cornell Tech campus was built on a site with a long, challenging history. Before this academic hub arrived, this stretch of land was occupied by the Goldwater Memorial Hospital, which served the chronically ill for decades. Designers chose to honor this past by carefully salvaging large, modernist murals created under the Works Projects Administration in the nineteen forties. These artworks were rescued from the hospital before its demolition and are now permanently installed throughout the campus buildings, including a massive abstract mural by Ilya Bolotowsky that occupies a specially shaped room designed to fit its original curved dimensions.
