This bench is a small part of a larger, quirky effort to define the character of Roosevelt Island. It belongs to a series of distinctive, custom-designed seats that feature mahogany planks held by stainless steel supports. The architects at Marvel designed these to mirror the long, narrow silhouette of the island itself, creating a meta-design that reflects the geography beneath you. This project was part of a push by developers to transform the island's retail corridors into a unique destination with a tempo and identity separate from the rest of New York City.
