The Golden Theatre opened its doors in February 1927 under the original name Theatre Masque. It was built as the smallest and most intimate venue within a grand theater and hotel complex developed by the Chanin brothers. The architect, Herbert J. Krapp, designed the building in a modern Spanish style, complete with a terracotta base and a decorative rooftop loggia. This intimate design choice was intentional, as the developers wanted a space specifically suited for serious dramas rather than large-scale musicals.
