Majestic Theatre

The Majestic Theatre opened in nineteen twenty-seven as the crown jewel of an ambitious entertainment complex. Built by real estate developer Irwin Chanin, it was the largest of three theaters designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp to anchor a section of the city that was then pushing the boundaries of the traditional theater district. Chanin and Krapp opted for a distinctive Spanish modern style for the project, incorporating warm golden brick, terracotta ornamentation, and arched windows that stood out from the more common architectural trends of the era. This venue was specifically engineered to house large-scale musical productions, a mission that has defined its purpose for nearly a century.
