The Jairos Jiri craft shop sits under a wide, thatched roof that keeps the interior cool against the Victoria Falls heat. Jairos Jiri founded the organization in nineteen fifty to support people with disabilities, teaching them trades like woodcarving and basket weaving so they could earn their own living. Inside, the shelves hold carvings made right on the premises. You might spot a craftsman hammering a chisel into mahogany while the smell of sawdust fills the air around the finished wooden animals.
