The Victoria Falls Hotel appears as a sprawling Edwardian structure with white-washed walls and deep, shaded verandas overlooking the Zambezi River gorge. It opened in nineteen oh four to house travelers arriving on the newly extended Cape to Cairo railway line. While the trains brought engineers and tourists, the hotel gained its reputation when Queen Elizabeth the Second stayed here in nineteen forty-seven. She slept in a suite that now bears her name, and the Royal family held tea on the terrace.
