Bruegelhuis

The Bruegelhuis features a prominent stepped gable that rises above the surrounding buildings on the Rue des Sablons. This house served as the residence and studio of Pieter Bruegel the Elder during the final years of his life in the sixteen sixties. While historians still debate exactly which rooms he used for his canvases, records show he lived here with his wife, Mayken Coecke, until his death in fifteen sixty-nine. He left his final works in this building for his children.
