Oosterlingenplein is marked by the tall, gabled facade of the Huis der Oosterlingen, or the House of the Easterners. Built in the late fifteenth century, this structure served as the warehouse and trading hub for merchants from the Hanseatic League. These traders from northern Europe gathered here to exchange timber, fur, and grain for local cloth. The massive brick building remains a remnant of the period when this harbor area served as the primary commercial gateway for the city.
