The Hosmer House features a heavy, ornate limestone facade capped by an oversized, copper-clad mansard roof. Built in nineteen oh one for the shipping magnate Charles Hosmer, the mansion displays the wealth of Montreal’s Golden Square Mile. Hosmer insisted on a design that mimicked the style of a French Renaissance chateau to entertain his elite guests. His daughter later donated the building to the Montreal General Hospital, and the interior spaces once used for grand balls were converted into clinical offices.
