MEM - Centre des mémoires montréalaises

The MEM features a distinct, rhythmic facade of terracotta louvers that filter daylight into the building. This center serves as the home for the Montreal History Centre, replacing its long-time residence in a former fire station in Old Montreal. It exists to hold the lived experiences of Montrealers rather than just focusing on official political records. During construction, workers unearthed the foundation of a nineteenth-century house, which now sits preserved within the lobby as a permanent reminder of the city's hidden layers.
