Gate of China town (North-West)

historic

The North-West Gate to Montreal’s Chinatown features two traditional Chinese stone lions guarding its entrance, standing watch beneath a roof of golden tiles. Erected in nineteen ninety-nine, this structure marks the border between the old red-light district of Saint-Laurent and the expanding neighborhood established by Chinese merchants. When the city planned this gateway, they hired artisans directly from Shanghai to carve the granite and paint the intricate floral patterns that hold the wooden beams together.
