Place Royale

Place Royale is defined by the cobblestone expanse and the towering gray stone façade of the Notre-Dame-des-Victoires church anchored in the center. Samuel de Champlain founded this spot as a trading post in sixteen forty-two, naming it after the French king. It served as the city’s primary market for decades. In seventeen sixty, a British bombardment left the site in ruins, forcing the residents to rebuild the square from the scorched earth to restore their heart of commerce.
