Place Sun-Yat-Sen features a bronze statue of the Chinese revolutionary sitting atop a stone pedestal. It occupies a small plaza in the heart of Montreal’s Chinatown, established to mark the city’s deep connection to the Chinese diaspora. In nineteen eighty-eight, the city officially designated this site to honor the founder of the Republic of China. A plaque recounts his secret visit to Montreal in nineteen eleven, when he stopped here to raise funds for his uprising against the Qing dynasty.
