Château Ramezay - Musée et site historique de Montréal

The Château Ramezay features a heavy, dark stone exterior and steep gabled roofs, marks of the French colonial style that dominated Montreal in the seventeen hundreds. Claude de Ramezay, the governor of Montreal, built this residence in seventeen oh five to serve as his family home. After his death, the building became a warehouse for the French West India Company, then the headquarters for British governors, and later, the site where Benjamin Franklin stayed in seventeen seventy-six while attempting to recruit Canadians to the American Revolution.
