Fonderie Darling

The Fonderie Darling presents a jagged, industrial silhouette of red brick and rusted iron against the grey Montreal sky. This complex functioned as a major ironworks starting in eighteen eighty, pouring molten metal into parts for heavy machinery and ships. In the mid-nineteen seventies, the foundry furnaces cooled for the last time. A small group of artists occupied the vacant space decades later, transforming the cavernous shop floors into studios and exhibition halls where iron dust once settled on the floor.
