Jacques-Cartier Pier

The Jacques-Cartier Pier stretches into the Saint Lawrence River as a wide, flat concrete finger lined with massive, rusted metal shipping containers. It began as a coal berth in the early twentieth century, designed to handle the heavy industrial traffic that once defined Montreal’s harbor. While the cargo ships have moved further downstream, the pier remains anchored by the Clock Tower at its base, a stone monument built in nineteen twenty-two to honor the sailors who died during the First World War.
