The Cinémathèque québécoise holds a jagged, concrete facade that looms over the corner of De Maisonneuve Boulevard. It functions as the primary archive for Canadian and international film, housing millions of items ranging from nitrate reels to directors' personal correspondence. Guy L. Coté founded the institution in nineteen sixty-three with his own private collection stored in a small apartment. He eventually bartered with the government to secure this dedicated home, where curators now preserve decaying celluloid before it vanishes into dust.
