Redpath Museum

The Redpath Museum sports a Greek Revival facade of grey limestone, standing apart from the surrounding modern campus buildings like a fossil in a display case. Peter Redpath, a wealthy sugar magnate, paid for its construction in eighteen eighty-two to house the collection of naturalist John William Dawson. Dawson spent decades scouring the province for ancient specimens, and this building served as his primary laboratory. Inside, the massive skeleton of a gorgosaurus still commands the central hall, exactly where it was mounted in nineteen twenty-one.
