Parc de l'Écurie-Horse Palace

The Horse Palace on William Street consists of a low, modest brick building that sits quiet among the industrial surroundings of Little Burgundy. It houses the last working stables in Montreal. While the city grew into a metropolis of steel and high-rises, these stalls remained dedicated to the carriage horses that still trot through Old Montreal. The stable owner, Peter Schiesser, spent decades fighting to keep the horses in this building as property developers tried to tear it down for luxury condos.
