Place du 11 Novembre 1918

Place du Onze Novembre nineteen eighteen sits directly in front of the Gare de l'Est. A tall, bronze statue of a woman holding a torch stands in the center of the square. This is the Strasbourg Monument, designed by sculptor Léon Georges Baudry. It marks the return of Alsace and Lorraine to France after the First World War. Train tracks once ended here, and passengers arriving from the east saw this figure as the first image of their homecoming.
