Cimetière Sainte-Marguerite

The Cimetière Sainte-Marguerite sits behind a plain iron gate on Rue Saint-Bernard, marked by a simple stone wall that separates it from the bustle of the eleventh arrondissement. This burial ground dates back to the seventeenth century, originally serving the local parish. During the French Revolution, the pits here became a final resting place for victims of the guillotine. A small plaque near the entrance notes the burial of the young boy known as Louis the seventeenth, the uncrowned king who died in the nearby Temple prison.
