Hôtel de Montmorin

The Hôtel de Montmorin features a stone facade with a high, sloping roofline that marks the distinct transition between the traditional aristocratic residences of the seventeenth century and the more utilitarian designs that followed. Armand-Marc de Montmorin, the last foreign minister under King Louis the Sixteenth, lived here while managing the unraveling diplomacy of a crumbling monarchy. After he disappeared during the September Massacres of seventeen ninety-two, the building eventually became the permanent home for the French Ministry of Overseas Territories.
