Passerelle de l'Impératrice

historic

The Passerelle de l'Impératrice is a narrow footbridge that spans a small canal in the Parc Monceau. It consists of a single iron arch painted a muted green, with delicate floral castings framing the span. Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon the Third, commissioned the bridge in eighteen sixty-one as part of the park's redesign. She wanted a picturesque view of the landscape, and this iron walkway offered a direct path for the fashionable crowds strolling through the English-style gardens she favored.
