Montparnasse Tower

The Montparnasse Tower rises as a solitary, dark glass slab above the classic stone skyline of Paris. Built in nineteen seventy-three, it remains the only skyscraper in the city center. When the tower opened, Parisians protested its sheer scale so intensely that the city banned future buildings from reaching such heights. In nineteen ninety-five, a high-wire artist named Philippe Petit walked a cable between the tower and the Eiffel Tower, suspended hundreds of feet above the streets in the dead of night.
