Théâtre Montparnasse & Petit Montparnasse

The Théâtre Montparnasse has occupied this site on the Rue de la Gaîté since 1817, though the elegant building you see today dates from 1886. It was designed by the architect Charles Peigniet, who is perhaps even more famous for his engineering work on the sturdy stone pedestal that supports the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.
