The Tour Montparnasse is a sixty-story black glass tower that rises like a monolith above the low rooftops of Paris. Built between nineteen sixty-nine and nineteen seventy-three, it was the first skyscraper in the city center. Parisians hated it from the start, arguing the sheer height ruined the classic skyline. Shortly after the tower opened, the city banned any new buildings over seven stories in the downtown area. The tower remains a singular, towering scar that forever changed the skyline.
