Promenade Jane et Paulette Nardal

The Promenade Jane et Paulette Nardal serves as a tribute to two visionary sisters from Martinique who reshaped intellectual life in Paris during the twentieth century. Jane and Paulette Nardal were among the first Black women to study at the Sorbonne in the nineteen twenties. In their home, they hosted a renowned literary salon that became the crucible for the Negritude movement. This movement unified Black intellectuals from across the diaspora to reclaim their heritage and challenge colonial narratives. While the movement is often associated with famous male contemporaries, the Nardal sisters provided the essential space and philosophical foundations for these ideas to flourish.
