La Ruche (residence)

La Ruche, which means The Beehive in French, is a historic circular building that has served as a sanctuary for artists since 1902. You are looking at a structure that began its life as a temporary pavilion designed by Gustave Eiffel to showcase Bordeaux wines at the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris. After the fair, sculptor Alfred Boucher purchased the iron and glass components, moved them to this site in the fifteenth arrondissement, and reassembled them to provide affordable, secure studio space for young, struggling artists.
