Croix de l'Évangile

The Croix de l'Évangile stands at the corner of the rue de l'Évangile and the rue d'Aubervilliers as the final remaining calvary within the city of Paris. While Paris once featured numerous roadside crosses at village boundaries and crossroads, this iron monument is the only one left in its original functional context. The site has hosted a cross since at least 1540, serving as a landmark for travelers navigating the open plains that separated the old villages of La Chapelle, La Villette, and Saint-Denis.
