The colorful, pixelated tiles you see on walls throughout Paris are the work of an anonymous street artist known simply as Invader. He began his project in 1998 by installing small, ceramic mosaics modeled after the low-resolution characters from 1970s arcade games. By using tiles to mimic the blocky pixels of early digital graphics, he translates retro gaming icons into durable, physical objects that occupy real urban spaces. Paris serves as the project's home base, with over 1,400 of these mosaics scattered across the city's monuments, street signs, and bridges.
