Tour La Villette

The Tour La Villette stands as a stark, concrete sentinel at the literal threshold of Paris and its northern suburbs. Reaching one hundred and twenty-five meters into the sky, this thirty-five-story monolith was completed in nineteen seventy-four, a period when the city was aggressively experimenting with high-rise office towers to decentralize business activity. Architect Michel Holley designed the structure with a functional, unadorned Brutalist aesthetic, featuring a grid of uniform, square windows that give the building its severe and singular profile. It remains the second-tallest building in the entire Seine-Saint-Denis department, looming over the complex intersection of the Paris ring road and the nearby railway lines.
