Fontaine aux Lions

The Fontaine aux Lions features a bronze basin flanked by two massive lions, casting water into the center from their mouths. This fountain originally stood at the entrance of the slaughterhouses of La Villette, designed by Gabriel Davioud in eighteen sixty-seven. It served as a functional piece of infrastructure for the livestock trade, providing water to animals destined for the butchers. Today, the lions remain, though the slaughterhouses are long gone, replaced by the green expanse of Parc de la Villette.
