Passerelle de la Rue de Crimée

The Passerelle de la Rue de Crimée is a bright red steel bridge that spans the Canal de l'Ourcq. It rests on a pair of massive concrete pillars. Built in eighteen eighty-five, this structure replaced an earlier wooden crossing that restricted boat traffic. The engineer, Armand Moisant, designed it to rotate on a central pivot, allowing barges to pass through the waterway below. It remains one of the last few operating manual swing bridges in the city, operated by workers inside a small cabin.
