Orgues de Flandre

The Orgues de Flandre reaches toward the sky with four massive, jagged towers of concrete and glass. Designed by architect Martin van Treeck in the nineteen seventies, this social housing complex replaced the old Flandre market district. Its tallest point, the Prelude Tower, stands nearly four hundred feet high, casting long shadows over the rooftops of the nineteenth arrondissement. When developers finished construction in nineteen eighty, they created a vertical city meant to house thousands of residents within a concentrated, brutalist grid.
