Commissioned in nineteen fifty-eight, this hunter-killer submarine logged thousands of hours submerged, patrolling the oceans during the Cold War. Sailors lived in cramped, pressurized compartments for weeks at a time, guided only by sonar and periscope. Today, the internal hatches remain open for visitors to navigate the narrow corridors where crews once operated the torpedo tubes and diesel engines.
