Square of 19 March 1962

The Square of March nineteenth nineteen sixty-two features a low stone stele inscribed with the names of fallen soldiers, centered within a small, quiet patch of green in Pantin. It marks the precise date the Evian Accords ended the Algerian War. Local veterans insisted on this specific name to ensure the ceasefire remained part of the public consciousness. During the dedication, a former colonial soldier and a French veteran planted a tree together, both refusing to speak about the preceding eight years of combat.
