Square Henri-Sellier

Square Henri-Sellier sits at the heart of a residential enclave known for its distinct urban history. This green space serves as the central anchor for a group of fifty-six individual houses, which were built here between nineteen twenty-eight and nineteen thirty-one. The area surrounding the square was once a precarious, unstable depression in the landscape that had been used as a landfill. Architects opted to place these small residential pavilions here specifically because their construction required shallower foundations than the heavier apartment buildings that ring the outer edges of this neighborhood. The square and its surrounding homes form the first phase of a larger project, creating a planned environment that prioritized sunlight and vegetation in what was once a site of blight.
