Hôtel de Ville, Les Lilas

The Hôtel de Ville in Les Lilas features a bright red brick facade and a distinct clock tower rising above the Place du Vel-d'Hiv. When the town separated from Romainville in eighteen sixty-seven, officials needed a permanent home for the local government. Architect Juste Lisch designed this building to project stability for the new municipality. During the Second World War, the mayor’s office became a base for local resistance efforts, leading to the arrest of several municipal employees by occupying forces.
