Château de L'Etang

The building before you is known as the Chateau de l'Etang, a name that might seem confusing given the total absence of a lake or pond in its current park. The name is a literal remnant of the site's original topography, which once featured a deep clay pit that collected rainwater and mountain springs. Centuries ago, this water was so prized that it was diverted through extensive pipe systems to feed the opulent fountains and gardens of the grander, nearby estate belonging to the Duchesse d'Orléans.
