The two identical, thirty-story towers of Les Mercuriales rise above the eastern edge of Paris like twin monoliths of dark glass and steel. Built in nineteen seventy-five, these office blocks were originally designed to anchor a massive business district that never fully materialized. Architecturally, they mirror the proportions of the former World Trade Center towers in New York. While the business hub failed to grow, the towers remain, casting long shadows over Bagnolet as solitary markers of a forgotten urban ambition.
