The interchange at Porte de Bagnolet serves as one of the primary gateways into Paris, functioning as a massive, complex junction where the boulevard périphérique meets the A3 motorway. It consists of nineteen distinct bridges and viaducts that weave together over a two-level span. Construction of this infrastructure took place between 1966 and 1969, fundamentally altering the local landscape by replacing the natural terrain with a dense network of concrete. The architect Serge Lana designed the project after conducting extensive research in Dallas, aiming to create a highly efficient, high-capacity flow for the rising number of automobiles that defined the era.
