Boulevard Haussmann

Baron Georges-Eugene Haussmann, the man for whom this street is named, famously ordered the demolition of the house where he was born to make way for his ambitious urban projects. The building stood at the corner of rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, precisely within the path he charted for the new Paris. He served as the Prefect of the Seine under Napoleon III and treated the city like a grand architectural experiment, carving wide, straight lines through the dense, medieval maze of the capital to modernize its infrastructure.
