Le Lido

Before it became a world-renowned temple of cabaret, this space was an underground artificial beach known as La Plage de Paris. In the nineteen twenties, visitors descended into a basement on the Champs-Élysées to swim in an indoor pool and enjoy a casino, all while surrounded by decor meant to evoke the romantic allure of Venice. The venue eventually abandoned its aquatic roots during the nineteen thirties, paving the way for its transformation into the legendary stage that defined Parisian nightlife for decades.
