Pavillon de l'Esprit Nouveau

The Pavillon de l'Esprit Nouveau stands apart with its stark white rectangular geometry and a living tree growing directly through the center of its roof terrace. Built by Le Corbusier for the nineteen twenty-five International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, it served as a radical rejection of the ornate styles popular at the time. The architect filled the space with mass-produced industrial furniture, intending to prove that high-quality housing could be manufactured efficiently for the modern urban resident.
